My daughter just started college, and she read one of her assignments to me. It was part of a required course curriculum on “Climate Emotions.” Hmm… Curious, I listened intently as she read aloud (over FaceTime 😊). The assignment discussed a person who was in despair, could not sleep, and worried all day about how the world as we know it was going to end due to the way we were all mistreating the environment.
Then she went off on a tangent talking about how popular Ugg boots were becoming on campus and the poor sheep that were ‘sacrificed’ making all those furry boots for college kids. Thankfully, there’s no Che Guevara poster up on her dorm room wall (yet).
Feeling smart, I said, “you know, they just give the sheep a much-needed haircut and use that excess wool for those Ugg boots; it’s all good.” She proceeded to crush me with her response: “that is what Ugg wants you to think, but the process is much more cruel!” I’ll spare you the details.
So, I thought to myself more about the environmental impacts of what we do at RPost: I wonder what the world would look like today if we at RPost had not pioneered modern day eSignature services back in 2000, if all those entrepreneurial IT and Ops folks hadn’t taken the time to modernize their workflows, and if all those lawmakers hadn’t dug in to create eSignature legal frameworks?
We’d surely be in a world with far fewer trees. We’d have far more courier airplanes (and their associated carbon footprints) cluttering the skies, crisscrossing the world to drop off stapled packets of paper. We’d be burning more fuel driving to meetings to get in-person signatures to close the urgent deal.
Should I mention this to my daughter? After all, she’s been (through osmosis due to living in the household of an eSign entrepreneur) part of a revolution of environmental beautification through workplace modernization—sort of a counterweight to “climate despair”.
Would she care that we at RPost were named a Leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide eSignature Software 2023 Vendor Assessment? Would she be pleased that International Data Corporation (IDC), the premier global provider of market intelligence for the information technology markets (and its more than 1300 analysts), was helping companies identify the best eSignature vendor for their needs (e.g., RPost 😉) to save more trees?

Would she value this IDC MarketScape analysis that scored providers on 27 qualitative and quantitative criteria across two vectors, Capabilities and Strategies? Or how about Holly Muscolino, IDC Research VP of Content Strategies and the Future of Work, concluding that…
“RPost's key differentiators are reflected in its ‘RSign Manifesto’: RSign is feature rich, easy to use, friendly to work with, enterprise-grade, and integrated. RPost also has a strong focus on eSign legalities, security, and authentication considering its original Registered Email™ proof of delivery and email encryption products.”
Would my daughter be able to, as a college Freshman, appreciate the resulting analysis depicted graphically in the 2023 MarketScape assessment chart below that shows RPost is well-positioned in both categories as a Leader among the 18 others analyzed?
IDC CHART SOURCE: IDC MarketScape: Worldwide eSignature Software 2023 Vendor Assessment, by Holly Muscolino, September 2023, IDC Doc# US49646923e. IDC MarketScape vendor analysis model is designed to provide an overview of the competitive fitness of ICT suppliers in each market. The research methodology utilizes a rigorous scoring methodology based on both qualitative and quantitative criteria that results in a single graphical illustration of each vendor’s position within a given market. The Capabilities score measures vendor product, go-to-market, and business execution in the short-term. The Strategy score measures alignment of vendor strategies with customer requirements in a 3-5-year timeframe. Vendor market share is represented by the size of the circles.

Would she understand the sophistication of this year-long research, where the Capabilities score measures product, go-to-market, and business execution in the short-term? Or how the Strategy score measures alignment of vendor strategies with customer requirements in a 3-5-year timeframe? (Vendor market share is represented by the size of the circles.)
Well, she might not appreciate ALL these details, but I think she (and future generations) will live a better life with cleaner air, water, and less climate emotional distress, as we (RPost, our customers and partners) contributed to making the world that much more of a better place to live through technology that enables workplace modernization.
